Macs and HP printer problem

After updating your MacBook’s operating system, you may experience a problem when trying to print to a HP printer.

An error message that pops up indicates something similar to one of the messages below:

  • A [component name] will damage your computer
  • Software for “%@” failed to run. (-9927)
  • Can’t open “/private/var/spool/cups/tmp/…”

It will want you to report the “malware” to Apple, but there is no obvious way to print. Simply removing the printer from your laptop and reinstalling it will not resolve the issue.

It is a known issue between HP and Apple, having to do with revoked security certificates. HP support provides the following instructions for completely deleting the drivers from your mac and reinstalling the correct, current version.
