Flipgrid is now just Flip! Easy Video Discussions
Video Discussion Tools
Flip, formerly Flipgrid, is the premier Video Discussion Tool. These tools allow students to easily post rich media and video in a threaded discussion format. Flip is completely free for all educators and students.
In Flip, topics are created, shared with students (potentially via a Canvas integration or URL), and students are able to engage by posting their video responses.
Below are a variety of tips and information about Flip. Guided learning for using Flip in your courses can be found by contacting your Instructional Technologist (ITG) for personalized assistance. For those not in the Wake Forest College, contact the Bridge Service Desk in ZSR to discover what individualized resources are available to you.
Canvas Only Alternative
Canvas allows students and instructors to use video recordings in regular Canvas discussions. Although not as fluid, less featured, and a bit more clunky compared to the Flip tool, this can be an alternative with less of a learning curve for the instructor to start prompting for video responses in discussions.
Here’s a link to send to students to instruct how to use video in their responses:

More than Just Grids (Discussions)
Flip can do more than just create Grids (Discussions) where students reply to topics. It is a simple video recording tool

Mixtapes allow you to select some of the best videos from previous discussions to feature in a “MixTape.” This could be useful to show to future classes as an interesting and novel way for new students to learn from previous students.
